Last year, Kerri and I spent a good bit of time near George Town, Exuma, anchored across from Kidd Cove. One day we saw some dolphins passing through and they went and checked out a guy who was in the water snorkeling around his boat. So ~ hey! I put my stuff on and got in the water, and sure enough they came swimming around me. What fun!
This year I was there again with Nick on sv Summer Wind. It was our last day anchored there before we had to put the boat up in a hurricane hole and fly home. I pulled a t-shirt off the top of the “clean” stack to wear that day and noticed that it had a dolphin on it, and I thought, “Well, maybe it will be like game day for sports fans.” It wasn’t an hour later that a pod of dolphins came swimming around the boat! So of course, I joined them.
There was a baby who stayed close to mom, but at one time the baby broke free and swam five or six circles around me while I just slowly turned to keep up:
Pretty soon they started moving off but would keep coming back to check to see if I was coming. I wish I could have kept up with them; it was clear they wanted me to. Listen to them talk to me in the video, urging me to hurry up.
